# VoiceLK

> VoiceLK is a free AI study assistant for Sri Lankan O/Level (G.C.E. Ordinary Level) ICT students. Students ask a question in English, Sinhala or a mix of both, and VoiceLK answers in text and reads the answer aloud in natural Sinhala speech, produced by its own code-switched Sinhala/English text-to-speech model.

VoiceLK is an academic research project. Its speech comes from a VITS model trained by the project on Sinhala and code-switched Sinhala/English speech, with its own text normalisation and grapheme-to-phoneme front-end, so English technical terms that appear inside Sinhala sentences (for example "RAM", "database", "IP address") are pronounced correctly.

The web app is a single page at https://chat.voicelk.dev/. There are no other public pages; everything below happens inside that page.

## What students can do

- Ask about any topic on the O/Level ICT syllabus: computer fundamentals, number systems, data representation, databases, networking and the internet, programming logic and algorithms, and similar topics.
- Get a written answer and a Sinhala audio narration of it, with play, pause, seek and download controls.
- Change playback speed (0.75x to 1.5x) and turn auto-play on or off in Settings > Audio & Playback.
- Choose between several Sinhala voices (signed-in accounts).
- Keep chat history, rate audio answers and leave feedback (signed-in accounts).
- Use light or dark mode.

## Accounts

- Guest: no sign-up needed. Guests can chat, browse Help and generate a small number of free audio answers in the default voice.
- Signed-in: sign up with email or Google. Unlocks unlimited audio, voice choice, saved history, rating and data export.

## Frequently asked questions

- **Who is VoiceLK for?** O/Level ICT students in Sri Lanka who want to revise by listening, in Sinhala.
- **Do I need an account?** No. Guests can start straight away; an account adds history, voice choice and unlimited audio.
- **Which languages can I ask in?** English, Sinhala, or a mix of both.
- **How do I hear an answer?** Press the play button under any answer. With auto-play on, new answers start playing by themselves.
- **Can I delete my history?** Yes, from Settings > Data & Privacy > Clear Chat History. This cannot be undone.
- **What does VoiceLK store in cookies?** Only theme, language, voice, playback speed and auto-play preferences, and only after the visitor accepts cookies.
